Irish Rail say there is no excuse for reckless driving causing disruption following the collision of a vehicle at the level crossing gates in Castlerea yesterday.
Gardai attended the scene shortly after 2 o clock yesterday afternoon, where a lorry carrying bales struck and damaged the level crossing gates in the town.
The collision caused delays of up to an hour for certain services on the line.
In a statement to Midwest News, Irish Rail say they urge all road users of level crossings to approach them safely and to observe warning lights when barriers are to begin descending.
They say the motorist involved will be pursued for the costs of the damage while Gardai say no injuries were reported and that investigations are ongoing.
This is the second such incident at the level crossing barriers in Castlerea in recent weeks.
