The Minister for Education Norma Foley is visiting a number of schools across Mayo today to meet with staff and students.

She began her visit in Ballina this morning, visiting Oliver Plunkett’s NS and the new campus of St Mary’s Secondary School. From there she travelled to Crossmolina to visit St Tiernans Secondary School.

This afternoon Minister Foley will be in Castlebar and will visit Educate Together School and Davitt College

Castlebar Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere has welcomed the visit of the Minister to the county today where he says, “she will see 5 fantastic schools”, but he hopes Minister Foley will make some announcement  around the debacle regarding the school Transport services.

20 pupils in Straide at present have no permanent bus service. Deputy Alan Dillon and local bus operator Micheal Moran from Castlebar have organised a temporary service, but a permanent solution needs to be found.

Councillor Deere told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that he hopes Minister Foley will have some good news on the school transport for the county today…
