Action needs to be taken now to prevent the further loss of public support in our policing system.
That's according to local councillor Christy Hyland.
At the recent joint policing committee meeting it was revealed that the number of superintendents in the county will decrease from 6 to 2 with one serving North Mayo (Belmullet, Ballina, Swinford) and the other serving South Mayo (Claremorris, Castlebar, Westport).
Councillor Hyland says that a similar model to this was rolled out in the UK a few years back and they now wish to return to the old structure.
