Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection wth the death of three siblings in Tallaght.

It's understood that the victims were stabbed to death.

The residents of Rossfield Avenue in Tallaght are mourning the tragic loss of three young lives.

8 year-old twins , a boy and a girl, along with their 18 year-old sister, died this morning in what Gardai are calling a 'violent incident.'

Gardaí rushed to the scene after an alert around half past midnight - the three siblings were taken to hospital in Crumlin but were pronounced dead a short time later.

A 14 year-old boy was also brought to hospital, where he's being treated for non life threatening injuries.

The children's mother wasn't injured at the scene but is also receiving medical treatment.

A man in his early 20s was arrested after the Garda Armed Support Unit intervened.

All involved in the incident are believed to have been known to each other.

Locals say they heard sounds of struggle and violence spill out onto the street - supports will be put in place to ensure the community can heal during these shocking times.
