389 hate crimes were recorded last year.

In addition there were 59 hate related incidents in 2021, according to Garda figures.

In total 483 discriminatory motives were recorded, with the most prevalent being race at 44 per cent and sexual orientation at 15 per cent.

Nationality accounted for 14 per cent of the motives.

Some incidents can have more than one motive.

50 per cent of hate related incidents were in Dublin, 19 per cent in the Southern Region and 16 per cent in the North Western Region.

15 per cent of the total were in the Eastern Region.
