Emergency water tankers were required to ensure a water supply in Louisburgh last week in the heatwave.

As the temperature soared, the number of visitors to the town rose dramatically as many sought to enjoy the many beautiful beaches in the vicinity.

Westport based councillor Christy Hyland says Mayo county council provided large water tankers to the town to ensure the water supply did not run dry and in addition local people reduced their water usage.

He says there is now even more of an urgency to get the new Murrisk – Lecanvey water supply in place, so that it can then be extended out to the town of Louisburgh.
