Students who had booked single rooms for the upcoming year from a large accommodation provider in Galway were recently told they had 5 days to decide to switch to a twin room - or risk losing their place.

According to NUIG Students Union, the provider offered those who accepted around 550 euro in compensation, as a 'gesture of good will.'

The provider has justified the move by stating they've experienced 'unprecedented demand' this year.
