Over €236,000 in funding has been awarded to seven outdoor recreation infrastructure projects in Mayo.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, made the announcement under Measure 1 of the 2022 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

It provides investment ranging from €30,000 and up for small scale projects.

The successful projects in Mayo included Ballina Quay, Clare Lake Trailhead (Claremorris), Carrowmore Beach Trail (Louisburgh), Mullaghroe Beach (Belmullet), Raheen Woods (Castlebar), Siúlóid lorrais Cois Fharraige (Erris) and the Tullaghan Loop Walks (Bangor Erris).

Fine Gael Deputy Alan Dillon told Midwest News that the facilities are designed to benefit the health and wellbeing of these communities.


Elsewhere, County Galway received just over €393,000 in funding, Roscommon got over € 375,000 and Sligo took in over € 342,000 funding under the same scheme.
