The U turn by AIB on turning 70 branches cashless is welcomed but the thought of such an idea is disgraceful, according to Councillor Christy Hyland.

The Westport councillor says that many people, especially older people now have no confidence in the banks.

He says the idea to withdraw cash services from many AIB braches would have ultimately seen a rise in theft, as people would store their money at home until they were able to get to a branch that accepts cash.

Councillor Hyland has been speaking to Midwest Radio's John Morley.
