Many Bus Eireann depots are beginning to see an aging workforce, with a lack of young people choosing the occupation as a career path.

That's according to Bus Eireann driver and NBRU rep, Alan Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher says in the Ballina depot, nearly 60% of the workforce is over the age of 55, with younger people not being enticed into the job.

Alan Gallagher told Midwest Radio's John Morley that more needs to be done to bring a younger generation into the career....


Meanwhile Sligo/Leitrim TD Marian Harkin has criticised the constant cancellation of Bus Eireann services in the region.

The Independent Deputy says that many people plan their days around return bus journeys and are then left stranded when a bus is cancelled.

Deputy Harkin told Midwest News that many people have been left waiting on the side of the road for services that aren't showing up...
