The West Road in Westport has reopened this afternoon following of a single vehicle road traffic collision yesterday between a car and a pedestrian.

The crash occurred along the West Road between Westport Fire Station and the Ardmore Road Junction at around 5:40pm yesterday evening.

It’s understood that a teenage male pedestrian was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital Galway for treatment for his injuries.

He was walking close to the MUGA Skate Park at Carrownalurgan on the Murrisk road out of the town.

The road reopened to traffic shortly before 11 o'clock this morning.
