There is no date available from the HSE as to when planning will be sought for the long promised new Emergency Dept at Mayo University Hospital. Neither is there any information on how much money has been allocated for its construction or when it will be in operation for patients. That’s according to the Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District Michael Kilcoyne.

The Cathaoirleach is a member of the HSE West Forum and he submitted questions on these issues, to HSE Management, at a Forum meeting in Galway earlier this week.

When the Taoiseach was in Castlebar last week he clearly stated that the capital funding has been allocated by government for a new ED at Mayo University Hospital.

However, Cathaoirleach Kilcoyne says he is frustrated with the lack of any definitive answers from the HSE on the progress of the construction.

Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley asked the Cathaoirleach if he had elicited any additional information from HSE Management on a new ED for the Castlebar hospital…
