Plans to develop a new riverwalk in a Mayo town have gone on public display.

Mayo County Council propose to construct a pedestrian and cycle route along the Mullaghanoe River in Charlestown.

The route itself is 500 metres long and will start at the Charlestown open air swimming pool.

It will then head southwest along the Mullaghanoe River and turn after the ring fort to link up with a proposed walkway in Charlestown GAA grounds.

The proposal also includes pavement construction, fencing and boundary treatments.

Full plans can be viewed at the council's offices in Claremorris, Swinford and Castlebar, and also on the online consultation portal at until July 28.

Members of the public have also been invited to make submissions about the proposed works.
