The Castlebar International 4 Days’ Walks gets underway tomorrow and will run until Sunday.
It’s the 52nd year of the event that attracts walkers from all over the world to the county town and the festival programme includes Rambles across road, bog and hills, together with 10 and 20km road walks.
Hundreds of walkers are registering for this year’s event at the Ivy Tower Hotel in Castlebar today and walkers will embark on the 2022 walking festival from the same location from 8.30am tomorrow morning.
With so many visitors arriving into Castlebar for the 4 day event, there is a real scarcity of bed places and the scarcity of local accommodation has hit the numbers travelling in from some European countries as a result.
However, long time festival organizer Elaine Devereaux has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about the excitement of having the walking festival underway again, after its suspension over the past two years due to the pandemic….
