A number of premises in Belmullet town have been flooded following a burst water main.
The burst occurred yesterday evening and the town of Belmullet was without any water all night last night, as a result.
Local councillor Gerry Coyle says he has seen first-hand today the flooding now being experienced by some business premises at the docks in the town as a result of the burst.
Irish Water says it is working with Mayo County Council to restore water as quickly as possible to impacted customers following what it has described as “a large burst to a water main in Belmullet town”.
In a statement IW say whilst every effort is being made to maintain supply to as many customers as possible through reconfiguring the network, the burst is impacting the water supply to homes and businesses in the town and surrounding areas.
Dedicated water service crews have been mobilised and repairs are underway and are expected to be completed by 6pm this evening. Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.
