A new public sector pay deal needs to be agreed to avoid strike action by workers the subsequent detrimental effect on our economy.
That's according to Galway-East TD Sean Canney.
The Independent TD's call comes as talks between the Government and trade unions broke up overnight without agreement.
Discussions continued into the early hours of this morning, however there is a significant gap between both sides.
Unions have been expected to press for pay rises to compensate for the spiralling cost of living and the Workplace Relations Commission have urged both the government and trade unions to reflect and consider fresh negotiations.
