29 per cent of households in Ireland are experiencing energy poverty due mainly to the increased cost of energy.

The figure is up from a previous recorded high of 23 per cent in 1994/95.

According the ESRI in monetary terms energy inflation between January 2021 and April 2022 has resulted in household paying an extra € 21.27 per week, on average.

The figure increases to € 38.63 per week when motor fuels are included
