Residents living near a Castlebar quarry have every right to call on Mayo County Council to issue a restriction notice to halt the operation of asphalt plant until their concerns are addressed.
That’s the view of local TD Alan Dillon, who believes the local authority has completely failed in their approach to review the concern of the residents in Aughaluskey and Liscromwell.
A meeting took place last Thursday, which Deputy Dillon organized, and it was well attended by members of Castlebar Municipal District and the residents.
Residents have submitted up to 61 registered complaints to Mayo County Council relating to blasting and toxic fumes, due to concerns on the impact to their health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Councillors are raising the matter at today's meeting of the local authority and they will also raise it at the Castlebar Municipal District meeting later this week.
