An investigation has identified the cause of a mini explosion that occurred in Ballaghaderreen town centre last Friday afternoon.
ESB crews have established that a short circuit in an underground cable caused the explosion which lifted a manhole.
It was welcome news to residents who had been left concerned following the incident on Main Street close to the Charlestown junction at about 3pm on Friday afternoon last.
Emergency services, including gardai and the fire service together with Roscommon County Council staff, attended the scene with over 70 premises left without electricity for a period, immediately afterwards.
No injuries were reported.
