Anyone who is being forced to switch banks due to the upcoming closure of retail banking facilities with Ulster Bank or KBC, should immediately try to open a new account with a different banking outlet.
That’s the advice of Mayo Sinn Fein deputy Rose Conway Walsh.
The deputy is angered at the lack of human contact that is being provided by many of the other banks and financial institutions in accommodating new customers.
She has also highlighted contradictions between the Central Bank and the Bank and Payments Federation on the “switching code” and Sinn Fein is seeking clarification from the Central Bank following the position outlined by the Bank and Federation Payment to the Oireachtas Committee on Finance this week, where it indicated that banks will no longer be responsible for transferring direct debits for customers needing to change banks.
