The green light has been given for a long planned local authority housing development in the Mayo village of Carnacon.
Mayo county councillors have approved a 9 house development.
Carnacon, like many other rural areas, are being hit by a decline in pupil numbers in the local school.
Fianna Fail councillor Al McDonnell says there appears to be excessive red tape by involved through government departments in getting developments like this to construction stage.
