The Castlebar based charity -  Candle of Grace is appealing to the public in Mayo to consider becoming host families to the Ukrainian people who have come to the area in search of refuge.
In a post on its website, Candle of Grace states, that the people of the county had  stood shoulder to shoulder with it over the past 100 days of the war in Ukraine. However, “due to circumstances beyond our control we find that emergency accommodation being used by our Ukrainian friends is no longer available and so we urgently need your assistance as this is a true emergency. If you can help on a temporary or more long term basis please contact us”.
Prior to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine the main activity of Candle of Grace was hosting groups of Chernobyl children from Belarus in Mayo for rehabilitation and rest.
Castlebar man James Murray and his wife have been hosting a Ukranain refugee family for the past three months, and he has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about the present urgent need for more host families in Mayo for Ukrainian refugees…
