It is ‘outrageous’ that the reopening of Ballaghaderreen Library remains at least a year away.
That’s according to Roscommon Galway TD Claire Kerrane, who says the latest delay come as Roscommon County Council seek planning permission for My Open Library services.
The building has been closed to the public since the start of lockdown in 2020 and as it is a listed building, it went through a lengthy planning permission process for small scale works.
The new upgrades required for the My Open Library works mean in effect that the library will not reopen until quarter two 2023.
A silent protest is taking place this morning outside the premises, the former Dillon House, in the town centre.
Sinn Fein Deputy Claire Kerrane told Midwest Radio’s John Morley that the delay is outrageous as the library has been an immense loss to the town.
