Inquests into the deaths of four Irish Coast Guard air crew onboard the Rescue 116 helicopter off the Mayo coast more than four years ago are scheduled for early next month.
The office of Dr. Eleanor Fitzgerald, Coroner for north Mayo, confirmed today that the hearings will take place in Belmullet Civic Centre on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of June.
Four air crew; Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, Captain Mark Duffy, Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith died in the crash at Blackrock Island in the early hours of the 14th of March, 2017.
A preliminary inquest was conducted by Dr. Fitzgerald in April 2018.
The hearing was convened by the coroner to issue death certificates for all four crew members.
The bodies of winch men Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith were never recovered.
Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) chief inspector Jurgen Whyte told the initial inquest hearing that the search was “very challenging”, and the helicopter could not have come down in a more difficult location.
