The Dail is set to vote tonight on a Sinn Fein motion calling for the National Maternity Hospital to be built on public land.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett says his party will facilitate the vote, which was put forward by the Rural Independents group.

The chairperson of the Green Party, Galway Senator Pauline O’Reilly has indicated disciplinary action would be taken against any of their TDs who vote against the government.

Two Green deputies, Neasa Hourigan and Patrick Costello, plan to support the Sinn Féin motion.

Senator O’Reilly had this to say when asked if a disciplinary processes would be triggered as a result of a vote..


If they do support the sinn Fein motion this evening, the Government will be reduced to a bare majority.

It currently has 82 seats, with 80 being a majority in the Dáil.

It would ramp up pressure on every Dáil vote for however long the whip is removed from the two TDs.
