Almost one in three small and medium size businesses in Ireland have experienced some form of cybercrime in the past year.

That's according to an EU report that shows 32 percent of Irish SME's have been affected.

The Eurobarometer poll also reveals that 12 percent of Irish SMEs who were targetted - paid ransom money - which is twice the EU average.

The findings come just one year since the HSE cyber attack, which has cost the health service almost 37-million euro to date.

Cyber expert Brian Honan, the CEO of BH Consulting says continued investment is needed to protect companies.
