The N5 Scramogue to Ballaghadereen road project cannot be sacrificed in any review of the cost of major road projects.

That's according to Roscommon-based Senator Eugene Murphy who's concerned at a  report in the Sunday Business Post that said some road projects could be discontinued, following the outcome of a review currently underway by TII - Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

Roadbridge had been awarded the tender for the N5 road project in Co Roscommon, but subsequently went into receivership.

The contract will now have to go back to tender, and Roscommon County Councillors were informed recently that the process could take up to a year.

Senator Murphy says the N5 Scramogue to Ballaghadereen project has waited long enough for the green light, and cannot be removed from the agenda now.

He told Midwest News that he will be raising  the matter at the Fianna Fail parliamentary party meeting this week....
