This morning the “Martin Neary Woodland”, located between Charlestown and Swinford, was officially opened by the Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity, Pippa Hackett.

The sun shone as a large crowd gathered for the celebrations where tea, coffees, cakes and buns were all served and consumed.

Minister Hackett  is a native of county Mayo and as she arrived at the Woodland, located about a kilometre off the old Charlestown to Swinford main road, she spoke to Midwest news about the occasion and also commented on the ongoing ban on the sale and distribution of turf controversy.
