The Irish Farmers Association are joining forces with An Garda Siochana today to invite people in rural Ireland to take part in National Community Engagement Day.
A number of events are taking place across Co Mayo, where people can meet with Gardai to discuss safety in rural areas, crime prevention and security.
These are informal meetings, where Gardai can hear of people's concerns, and discuss ways to address local crime and security issues.
Gardai will be available to meet with the public between 10 and 11am this morning at Dunnes Stores in Ballina and Balla Co-Op, between 11am and 12 at Homeland in Claremorris, between 12 and 1pm at Corrigans Store in Ballintubber and O'Donnells Centra in Crossmolina and then from 1.30 to 2.30 pm at Sweeney's Supvalu, Achill and Corfrib Oil, Louisburg.
Later this afternoon, Community Engagement events will take place from 2-3pm at Homeland in Swinford and Archers Co-op on the Newport Road in Castlebar, from 3 to 4pm at Brogan's Centra in Bangor and Kelly's Garage in Newport and from 3.30 to 4.30 at Delaney's Agir-Store,Ballyhaunis.
Similar events are taking place at hundreds of locations across the country today.
