The new Bishop of Galway will be installed next Sunday 1st May at Galway Cathedral.

At 3pm Mass, Bishop Michael Duignan - the current Bishop of Clonfert- will also be installed as the Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Apostolic Administrator of Kilfenora.

The two dioceses - Galway and Clonfert - are to be pastorally administered by the one Bishop.

Bishop Brendan Kelly now retires as Bishop of Galway.

Bishop Michael Duignan is a native of Athlone.

He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Elphin in 1994 and subsequently served in parishes in Sligo and as Chaplain to IT Sligo, and later as a lecturer in St Angela's College, Sligo.

He was ordained as Bishop of Clonfert in 2019 and will now take over pastoral responsibility for the two dioceses.
