The HSE is finalising plans to start the second Covid-19 booster vaccination programme, possibly in the coming days.

Earlier this month, NIAC recommended a second booster shot - or 4th vaccine - for everyone over 65, and for those 12 and over with a weak immune system.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in hospital has fallen to 654.

It is a reduction of 52 cases on yesterday, and is the lowest number since early March.

In this region, there are 25 Covid patients being treated at both Mayo and Galway University Hospitals, with 16 at Sligo University Hospital.

The figure of 25 at Mayo University Hospital is down from 51 at the start of this month.
