The Government has confirmed the continuation of the air search and rescue base in Sligo.
In recent weeks, concerns were raised that the new tender process for the service could see the number of search & rescue bases in the country being reduced from 4 to 3 -resulting in the service being lost to either Waterford or Sligo.
However, Sligo-Leitrim TD and Junior Minister Frank Feighan has welcomed a Cabinet decision today to retain all 4 air search & rescue bases, and says this will secure the facility at Strandhill Airport for the North West region.
Minister Feighan says the procurement process is continuing and it will be several weeks before we know the successful company who will operate the service at the four airports.
