172 new jobs were created in Co Mayo last year by over 200 small businesses, supported by the Local Enterprise Office.
The 2021 annual report for the Local Enterprise Offices shows the net jobs created in Mayo was 46.
During a very difficult year for small businesses, this is hugely positive news for Mayo, according to local FG Deputy Alan Dillon, who says it highlights the determination and hard work of business owners and workers across the county.
Nationally, LEO-supported companies created almost 7,500 new jobs around the country in 2021, with 85% of these jobs outside Dublin.
The Local Enterprise Offices provide support to many local businesses, offering advice, mentoring and training, and providing financial backing with programmes such as the Trading Online Voucher, Lean for Micro and Green for Micro.
