The head of the HSE says there are "positive indications" Ireland has reached the peak of the Omicron wave.
Paul Reid says the rise in Covid hospitaliations has steadied and there has been a reduction in GP referrals for testing.
Latest figures show 1,011 people are in hospital with the virus.
Galway University Hospital has the highest number of Covid-positive patients nationally for the third consecutive day at 76- unchanged from yesterday’s total.
Elsewhere across the region, there are 33 patients with the virus at Mayo University Hospital- down 5, 24 at Sligo University Hospital- down 4 and 10 at the Portiuncula in Ballinasloe- down 1.
92 patients are receiving treatment for the virus in ICU.
Of those 6 are in Galway- down 1, 2 are in the Portiuncula and one is in Mayo, while Sligo’s ICU remains free of the virus.
Mr Reid says there are early signs the peak of the current wave has been reached.
