National Women's Council Director Orla O'Connor said Ashling Murphy ’s death has shocked the entire nation.
“We have been inundated with contacts by women and men who really want to express their support to the family and also, they want to publicly show that support,” she said.
“They are also expressing their anger that once again we are saying very clearly that we need to end male violence against women.”
She said an online event will also be held for people who can't get to Dublin for 4pm.
“There will also be a minute’s silence at 4:30 because many people have contacted us who can’t physically be there and they also want to show their support,” she said.
“So that is why we are calling for that minute of silence at 4:30 where everyone around the country can show their support and solidarity.”
