There’s a real sense of urgency around the booster vaccine rollout due to the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant.
That’s according to the Secretary General of the Irish Pharmacy Union, Darragh O’Loughlin, who says the rollout in pharmacies has expanded significantly over the past three weeks.
The Tuam-based pharmacist revealed that 45,000 vaccines had been administered across the sector last week, up from 17,500 two weeks prior.
He also highlighted that there is a shortage of pharmacy graduates in the state at present, which is forcing the sector to look at recruiting staff from abroad.
IPU Secretary General Darragh O’Loughlin told Midwest News that more and more pharmacies are signing up to the rollout.
