The clean-up is now underway, after Storm Barra swept across Connacht last night, downing trees in many areas, upending wheelie bins and leaving debris on roads and footpaths.
While no serious incidents were reported in Co Mayo, county council crews were out from early morning dealing with fallen trees across the county.
Schools remains closed today in Mayo, Galway, Sligo and Leitrim, while some areas are still without electricity supplies.
The ESB says western counties are worst hit by power cuts, and they hope to have electricity restored to most areas by this evening.
In Mayo, a number of power outages are currently being dealt with in Belmullet, Bangor Erris, Crossmolina, Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Cong, and in the Turlough Road area of Castlebar.
Nationally, almost 60,000 homes and businesses are still without power, while 16 counties remain under a status yellow wind warning - including all of the Connacht counties - until 2pm this afternoon.
The yellow wind warning remains in place until 5 o'clock this evening for Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
