The worst is yet to come.
That's according to Met Eireann, as Storm Barra moves in from the Atlantic, bringing severe or damaging gusts and the possibility of coastal flooding.
This morning saw a number of trees down in areas across Co Mayo, while road conditions were dangerous in parts, due to snow showers and heavy rainfall.
However, no major incidents were reported.
Mayo and Galway are both under a level orange wind warning, which remains in place until 6am tomorrow morning, with damaging gusts of between 100 and 130 km/h possible - and stronger winds likely on coasts.
A status orange wind warning has now been issued for Sligo and Leitrim from 8 o'clock tonight until 8am tomorrow morning.
While winds across the West have eased over the last few hours, they will pick up again in the afternoon and evening, according to Deirdre Lowe of Met Eireann.
