The new pyrite redress scheme announced by Government yesterday falls short of providing 100% compensation for homes impacted by pyrite and mica.
That's according to the North Mayo Pyrite Group, who claims homeowners facing demolition and rebuild will still be out of pocket to the tune of tens of thousands of euro.
They've called for the removal of the sliding scale that means the payments per square foot go down after the first thousand feet.
Under the scheme, homeowners rebuilding their houses will be offered €145 pers quare foot for the first 1000 feet of their home, dropping to €110 per square foot for the second 1,000 foot.
However, Mayo Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary says the figures used in the new pyrite scheme are interim figures, which will be updated next Spring.
Deputy Calleary told Midwest News this evening that he understands the concerns of homeowners, but that changes can and will still be made...
