The chair of the South African Medical Association says travel restrictions in response to the new Covid variant are not justified.
On Friday the EU recommended additional rules for passengers arriving from southern Africa and other countries affected by the new Omicron variant.
It's believed the new variant is more transmissible and could have up to 50 mutations.
However, South African GP Dr Angelique Coetzee, says her patients with Omicron have presented with mild symptoms so far.
