The Saolta Hospital Group says they understand and regret the ongoing pressures facing nursing staff across their sites, including at Mayo University Hospital.

In a statement to Midwest News they say the improvement of nursing staff levels, are a priority for management within the hospital and within the Saolta Group.

It continues to say that the ED at Mayo University Hospital has been extremely busy with higher numbers of people attending over the past few months, resulting in high numbers on trolleys.

In addition to this, a surge in Covid admissions has impacted on the capacity to deal with both Covid and non-Covid admissions.

Chief Director of Nursing at the Saolta Group Paul Hooton says that a significant recruitment campaign is ongoing across the group and at Mayo University Hospital at present.
