Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was struck in the face by a firework in Eyre Square in Galway City overnight.
It happened shortly after midnight and gardai say it's understood the firework had been launched from close to the Tourist Information Kiosk.
The young woman, who was sitting at a bus stop near the taxi rank at the top of Eyre Square, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised as a result.
She was removed from the scene by ambulance.
This latest incident comes as concern grows over an increase in anti social behaviour around Eyre Square.
Gardaí understand there was a large group of people in the area at the time and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident make contact with them.
In particular, anyone who may have video footage of the incident, either on mobile phone, CCTV or dash-cam.
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigating Gardaí on 091-538000 or the confidential line 1800 666 111.
Local Councillor Frank Fahey raised the issue at the joint policing committee and was told the Square could be closed off at night if the situation doesn't improve
