The Minister for Health needs to intervene now and ensure that local pharmacies are part of the HSE plans for its upcoming Covid 19 vaccine booster campaign.
That’s the view of Tuam based pharmacist, Darragh O'Loughlin, Secretary General of the Irish Pharmacy Union
NIAC this week gave the go-ahead for the rollout of booster jabs to those over the age of 60.
The booster was previously only available to over 85s, and those over 65 in nursing homes, and the immuno-compromised.
To date the HSE's plan for the new rollout to over 60s relies on family doctors and mass vaccination centres to administer the boosters to this age cohort.
