There was a significant increase over the weekend in the number of people admitted to hospitals across the West with Covid-19, according to the Saolta Hospital Group.
There are 41 patients with the virus currently being treated at the Galway hospital - up from 19 a week ago - with 6 of these patients in intensive care.
The hospital is currently dealing with Covid-19 outbreaks on two wards, with a further two wards being used to care for Covid-positive patients.
This is having a significant impact on critical care services at the hospital, with some elective surgery being postponed as a result.
There are currently 16 Covid-positive patients being treated at Sligo University Hospital, 17 at Letterkenny hospital and 8 at both Mayo and Portiuncla Hospitals.
