The Taoiseach is officially opening the N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin today and he is also turning the sod on the N5 road project between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue.
This is a hugely significant day for Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo, according to Mayo Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary.
Mr Martin officially turned the sod on the construction of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue Road Project in the past hour (12:30pm), near Elphin.
He is due to arrive in Sligo shortly to officially open the €140 million road upgrade of the N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin.
The Taoiseach will unveil a plaque dedicated to the memory of all those who died on that stretch of road.
Deputy Dara Calleary told Midwest News that the start of works on the N5 is particularly welcome, as the road has been marked as a deterrent to investment in the west.
