Residents in Crossmolina are on alert for the next 24 hours as heavy rain is forecast for this evening putting the town at an increased flooding risk.
A Status Yellow weather warning for rain remains is in place today for counties Mayo, Galway, Leitrim, Sligo,Donegal, Cork and Kerry.
Met Eireann is warning that rain is expected to be heaviest and most persistent later this evening, with significant accumulations possible in upland areas, and there is a risk of localised flooding.
The weather warning is valid until 3am tomorrow (Saturday).
Due to an ongoing status yellow warning for rainfall, Mayo County Council has activated the flood preparedness plan for Crossmolina, where river levels are elevated over the last 48 hours.
Mayo County Council says it will update with further information as appropriate over the next 24 hours and request the co-operation of the Public until such time as the flood alert is stood down.
Local Councillor Michael Loftus is advising residents to prepare and put their flood barriers up.
