Mayo Sinn Fein TD Rose Conway Walsh has hit out at those responsible for vandalising a plaque remembering Mayo hunger striker Michael Gaughan in Ardnaree.
The Provisional Irish Republican Army hunger striker died in Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight in 1974 from force feeding.
The plaque remembering the Healy Terrace native is believed to have been vandalised yesterday afternoon.
It comes as today marks the 40th anniversary of the 1981 hunger strikes end.
Deputy Conway Walsh told Midwest News that she hopes anyone with information on this incident will come forward.
