The death has taken place of Stanley Tollman, Chairman of The Travel Corporation and owner of Ashford Castle in Cong.

Mr Tollman passed away at the age of 91 following a battle with cancer.

A native of South Africa, he was involved in the hotel business all his life.

Stanley married his wife Bea in 1954 and they bought their first hotel in Johannesburg before moving to London in the 70's where they acquired a number of hotels.

The Travel Corporation now has a portfolio of 40 brands - including Red Carnation Hotels, owners of 18 properties in the UK and Ireland, including Ashford Castle and the Lodge at Ashford.

The company took over the historic Ashford Castle in 2013 and invested some 50 million dollars in its restoration, while acquiring The Lodge at Ashford in 2014.

The Travel Corporation employs some 10,000 people in 70 countries.
