With 41 patients on trolleys today at University Hospital Galway, hospital management have apologised for the delays in the Emergency Department.

The Saolta Hospital Group says there's ongoing pressure on bed availability at the Galway hospital, and regrets that patients are experiencing long waiting times to be admitted.

Again, management are asking the public to only attend in cases of genuine emergency and to contact their GP in the first instance if the problem is not urgent.

Nationally, there are 431 patients on hospital trolleys today, according to the INMO, with 41 at UHG, 18 at Sligo University Hospital, 10 on trolleys at Portiuncla Hospital and 6 at Mayo University Hospital.
