The winner of the Galway heat of FameLab 2021 was Debismita Dutta, a PhD student based in University College Cork (UCC).
Kyra Menai Hamilton a researcher with Teagasc and based in Galway, took home the runner up award in the world's leading science communication competition.
Debismita is a first-year Ph.D. candidate studying magnetic nanoparticles, while Kyra is investigating drug resistance in sheep parasites and how resistance may impact parasite biology.
Organised by the British Council Ireland, FameLab teaches scientists how to convey their knowledge in an engaging, enlightening and entertaining way.
Both Debismita and Kyra will now compete in the national final on Thursday.
The Ireland winner, chosen from 12 finalists, will participate in the FameLab International Finals in November.
